Obsessions - Yoga High NYC

Hello!

It's been forever...I know...!

Lots of things have happened the last couple of weeks...Easter, Graham and I took a road trip to JMU, Yankee's game with Olive and John, Soul Cycle (!), and a quick trip to Baltimore.

I could recap all of these events...or I could just tell you about my most favorite yoga studio that I attend in the city.

I vote yoga.

I started doing yoga regularly in 2010 at a small studio in Farifax, VA and was practicing Astanga at the time and haven't stopped practicing since! Yoga High offers more of a variety of Vinyasa/flow classes each day. All of the instructors have different methods, sequences and music to accompany the practice. I started going to Yoga High my second week here and typically go to the Level II classes at least twice a week.

I'd highly recommend the studio to anyone, both beginner and advanced. I'm so thankful I found Yoga High when I did!

In addition to the studio, I have a couple other favorites as well!

My favorite pose, Triangle Pose

My favorite mat, Wai Lana

My favorite yoga pants, Wunder Unders from Lululemon

My view - March, 17th

I have the luxury of living on top of a spray paint shop/graffiti school and the customers practice in my backyard. Aka...I have an ever changing view. It's pretty cool actually as far as first floor views go and I'm going to spread the love. Enjoy!

MoMo travels - Phoenix, AZ

Graham and I visited Phoenix, Arizona this past weekend and stayed with his bro, Alex.

We ate our body weight in chips and salsa.

Had margaritas at every meal.

Got a little sun.

Watched the Mariners play some baseball.

Watched Argo.

Went to Scottsdale.

Hung out with friends, and their adorable little baby.

Enjoyed some much needed relaxation.

And then thoroughly enjoyed a red-eye back to NYC at 5:45am Monday. Woot.

MoMo Eats - Sweets

Hello.

I'm making an attempt to emerge from my hiatus.

My motivation? Ice cream...pretty standard for all aspects of my life actually, just ask Graham.

I'm going to tell you about a few of the amazing sweets I've eaten over the last couple of weeks.

While watching Biggest Loser. #standard

There are so many amazing places to indulge down here on the Lower East Side. Aka my hips and skinny jeans are no longer enjoying each other's company. When in Rome...

My bestie, Joanna was visiting this past weekend and we did some fabulous activities, one of which was eating at Melt Bakery.

Melt Bakery

Melt, located on Orchard St.  is an ice cream sandwich lovers dream. It's basically a store front with a fridge and a friendly man standing beside it.

They offer five sandwich combinations at a time, but have up to thirty in their rotation. They offer regular and mini sandwiches as well. Jo and I got four minis to share. We tried the The Classic (your standard ice cream sammie), The Cinnimax (a snicker doodle had a baby with french toast), The Morticia (malted milk balls at their finest), and The Lovelet (cream cheese ice cream, enough said).

The damage

My fave was the Cinnamax and Jo loved the Classic.

This place is amazing and you MUST go if you're in the neighborhood. And then call me, because I'll meet you there. They even deliver, here's my address... but no really just ask me.

Piperlime store? We'll take it.

Sugar Sweet Sunshine

Sugar Sweet Sunshine is small bakery shop located on Rivington St. on the Lower East Side. It's adorable, shabby chic and a sugary haven of all things happy.

My sister-in-law Olivia visited two weeks ago and we decided to forgo anything healthy for our Saturday lunch. Pudding and cupcakes it was.

Oh we saw this, and it was just amazing as you think it is.

I ordered the Ooey Gooey (chocolate cake with chocolate almond buttercream) and Olivia had the Goodie Goodie and we split a cup of the Chocolate  Chip Extravaganza pudding. NBD.

Sugar comas took place. Smiles were had. Rainbows and butterflies were present.

Lunch of champions

They have a large variety of cupcakes along with three flavors of pudding, mini cheesecakes, layer cakes and pies.

Did I mention that I love this city? And that I probably need to go to the dentist again?

Baby Nemo

I feel honored to have experienced my first nor'easter. I feel like it's a right of passage to becoming a real New Yorker.

It started Friday morning and watching the storm move in from the 21st floor of our office building was crazy. Most people went about work as usual since this is pretty standard apparently.

But by 3pm, trains and ferries were closing, Bloomberg addressed the little Nemo and we were all allowed to go home.

I immediately headed to Brooklyn to spend the snow storm with Molly and her roomies. I wasn't facing Nemo by myself!

Red wine was drank, french onion dip was inhaled and pizza was ordered. It was SO windy and the definition of a blizzard.

By Saturday morning it was all done! The streets were cleared and it was back to business as usual.

I just love being snowed in with friends and family. #goodtimes #snowday

Happy anny to me!

Last Friday was my one month anniversary in the city! Some may think it's a tad ridiculous to celebrate a month...but if you've ever met me you know I'm holiday obsessed.

It's been an interesting month, feeling both very short and very long. I think the largest adjustment is actually living alone. It has it's benefits, but it more lonely than I expected. And let's not even talk about the bills...I feel like Time Warner is robbing me. Over all though I'm enjoying the apartment, my location and commute couldn't get any better.

Work is fine so far as well. Starting over possesses so many growing pains. We have a new boss and basically a brand new team, I'm trying to be patient while staying focused. I've been working on a couple major clients and am out of the office more on client visits which are my favorite.

I went home to DC this past weekend which was so wonderful but also really tough. It's odd how being home makes your homesick?

Over the next month I have a bunch of visitors which I couldn't be more excited for! My best friend from college, Sam is coming this weekend, Graham the following, my sister-in-law Olivia the weekend after and then my best friend Joanna the first weekend of March. And it's almost Valentine's Day! The best day of the entire year!!!!

As I continue figuring out a groove I hope I can blog more regularly as well...I owe it to you!

Love you long time. Here's to 11 more months!

xxoo, your Mo

MoMo eats - Pig and Khao

This post is a tad overdue...damn you, full time job!

Graham and I did quite a bit of eating (naturally) while he was visiting.
On Friday night we had a late night dinner at Pig and Khao on Clinton St. in the Lower East.

I walked by it one night on my way to another dinner spot on Clinton, which is an eclectic block and it looked interesting and packed which is usually a good sign.

We went around 10pm and had to wait about 20 minutes for a table. But the small wait was well worth it. It is definitely one of my most memorable meals since being here. Not only was the company stellar (obvi) but the food was insano.

The menu and food is Southeast Asian fusion at its finest. The atmosphere is cozy and the kitchen is open. You can even sit at the "bar" which is actually the kitchen and watch the chefs prepare the food.

What we drank...

Both of us - Tiger Lagar (served with adorable tea cups, weird but awesome)
Me - Sangria

What we ate...

Spiced Chickpeas (simple, good bar snack, I loved them, Graham wasn't crazy about them)
Crispy Red Curry Rice Salad (good, but not memorable)
Khao Soi (probably the best thing I've eaten in NYC so far, but SUPER spicy)

Khao Soi heaven

And we were planning to get the Whole Fried Fish but we're too full from the first three things that we had to cancel the fish. Let's just say, the small plates are rather large.

We will definitely be returning for that fried fish though.

The actual bar, in the front window

The run down
Service: excellent
Price point: average, expensive for small plates but they're not small
Reservations needed?: no
Atmosphere: romantic, inviting
